Braathens Renavia
Founded in 2024 and based in Stockholm, Braathens Renavia was founded by Braganza to drive real change in sustainable aviation. The company is an innovator in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) technology and facility development across the Nordics, built on partnerships with the waste and forestry sectors. The company delivers impactful, reliable, and efficient SAF solutions that meet the industry’s specific needs.
What is SAF?
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a renewable fuel designed to replace traditional jet fuel, significantly reducing aviation’s environmental impact. SAF is a "drop-in fuel," meaning it is compatible with today’s aircraft and infrastructure, requiring no modifications. It is already in use today, proving its feasibility for reducing CO2 emissions in aviation. However, current production volumes are not sufficient to meet the growing demand. Scaling up SAF production is critical to achieving global sustainability targets, as it provides a practical and immediate solution for decarbonizing air travel while supporting the transition to a more sustainable aviation industry.
How is SAF produced?
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is created using a circular carbon process. Initially, CO2 is released during combustion in aircraft engines. This CO2 is recaptured by plants through photosynthesis, converting it into biomass such as forest residues and waste materials. These materials are then processed, gasified, and upgraded into SAF, reducing aviation CO2 emissions by over 80%.
